Announcement: New release candidate of MonetDB suite
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 This is a heads up announcement. We at CWI and MonetDB have prepared a release candidate for the Jun2016 release. Usually we just foist a new release upon you, our unsuspecting users, but this time, because there are so many changes, we thought it better to give you a little warning. See http://dev.monetdb.org/downloads/testing/ for the release and the preliminary release notes [1]. Among the changes is a complete overhaul of the MonetDB-geom module. If you use that, make very sure you have your backups in order. Also note that since this new version depends on an up-to-date version of the geos library, there is no geom module available for older Linux releases (in particular, Debian 7 (wheezy), Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr), and RedHat Enterprise Linux (CentOS and Scientific Linux) 6). The plan is to turn this release candidate into an actual release before the end of this month (June 2016). If you find a bug in this release candidate, please let us know on the bug tracker [2]. We will then determine whether to go ahead with the release (and hopefully fix the bug in the next bug-fix release) or postpone the release and fix the bug first.
