[Monetdb-developers] New release branches

Dear fellow MonetDB developers, to initiate the usual release process for the upcoming "GDK-2" release of the whole MonetDB software family, I plan to create new release branches in CVS during this weekend (most probably on Sunday Feb 03 2008). Please let me know, in case there are any (strong) reasons to postpone the creation of the new release branches. As usually, please note that once the release branches have been created, only bug fixes may be checked in to the release branches (in fact, all bug fixes have to be check in to the release branches, only!), while any new feature may be checked in to the development trunk, only. In case you have (minor!) features to add or finish, that should be in the release, please do so today, i.e., before I'll start creating the new release branches --- but make sure (*before* checking them in!) that they work flawlessly in all cases! In case you plan to add new features, please postpone your check-in until Monday Feb 04, i.e., until after I have created the new release branches. [Monetdb-developers] what about the jdbc driver ?

Hello, I'm unable to compile the jdbc driver : some Monet classes do not implement abstract methods. I've read a previous thread about this problem in the archive from april 2007. The cause of the problem seems to be the version of java I'm using (1.6). In my opinion jdk 1.5 is obsolete at this point and I no longer have this version on any of my machines. I tried the installation of the MonetDB-Mars-SuperBall-SR5 tarball, then of the last snapshot available but without success. Martin, please double check the results you approved. I hvaeno idea what the test (are supposed to) do, but a simple layman's sanity check reveals the following: - Test "remote00" contains six "io.print()", one with a literal "1", two with "mapi_port", and three with a BAT argument; however, the new stable output only contains a "[ 1 ]", the two mapi_ports and two BATs (there was no third?) have been removed by your checkin ... ? - Test "remote01" prints 4 BATs and one count; however, your changes of the stable (corrct?) output replace the last two BATs and the count by error messages ... ? Hi, I just made a very simple attempt to fix the problem by ensuring that --enable-oid32 is handled and MONET_OID32 defined only with 64-bit builds (but ignored/unset otherwise); see also [ 1876580 ] Compile MonetDB on Darwin 9: failed by --enable-oid32 https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1876580&group_id=… If this works, we're fine. If not, we can go back to the previous situtation (before Fabian's changes in buildtools/conf/MonetDB.m4), i.e., --enable-bits is only handled on platform where it is known to work (incl. Darwin 8), while on other platforms (e.g., Darwin 9; or when using the Intel compiler), configure stops with the following advice: "case "$GCC-$CC-$host_os-$host-$bits" not handled with --enable-bits, yet; please use CC, CFLAGS and/or LDFLAGS (instead of --enable-bits=$bits) to make "$CC" produce $bits-bit code" (obviously with the variables replaced with the respective values...)
