You'll let me/us know before you actually do it, so that we can prepare (i.e., cvs update our checkouts to the latest version before the split, do a final propagation before the split, etc.), right? Indeed. I am currently preparing a (longish) text that explains the imminent changes which also serves as a heads up for the coming change. However, there are forces that want me to check in my changes before the Xmas break (i.e. today) which does not give people much time to prepare... Propagations of changes only needs to be done to files that will get (re)moved or significantly changed. That is to say, most of the files in MonetDB except for src/gdk and src/common, and files such as conf/conf.bash, bootstrap, de-bootstrap, and configure.ag.

Well, then I'll trustfully leave (at least) the MonetDB propagation to you. I'm busy with otherthings today, and don't count on me during the coming days. I had planned to do a final propagation (late) tonight, but in case you ("have to") do major checkins before that, I'll leave it to you.
