[Monetdb-developers] New release branches
Dear fellow MonetDB developers, to initiate the usual release process for the upcoming "GDK-2" release of the whole MonetDB software family, I plan to create new release branches in CVS during this weekend (most probably on Sunday Feb 03 2008). Please let me know, in case there are any (strong) reasons to postpone the creation of the new release branches. As usually, please note that once the release branches have been created, only bug fixes may be checked in to the release branches (in fact, all bug fixes have to be check in to the release branches, only!), while any new feature may be checked in to the development trunk, only. In case you have (minor!) features to add or finish, that should be in the release, please do so today, i.e., before I'll start creating the new release branches --- but make sure (*before* checking them in!) that they work flawlessly in all cases! In case you plan to add new features, please postpone your check-in until Monday Feb 04, i.e., until after I have created the new release branches. In case you have any question, please do not hesitate to ask, preferably using one of the public communication channels (read: mailing lists). Thank you very much for your cooperation! Have a nice (and free) weekend. Dear fellow MonetDB developers, to ensure a simple and smooth generation of the new release branches, please refrain from check-ins to any of the MonetDB related CVS repositories as of now. I'll let you know once if created all new release branches. You are then more than welcome, again to proceed with your check-ins. Thank you very much for your cooperation! Dear fellow MonetDB developers, I'm done with creating the new "Stable" branches for the upcoming release. Please find the details below. You're now more than welcome, again, to check-in to the MonetDB-related repositories, provided you follow the usual pattern as recapped in the "IMPORTANT NOTES" below. Thank you very much for you cooperation and patience! Please let me/us know, in case you have anu questions, suggesttions, etc. Stefan ======== - Created "Stable" branches for the upcoming release: package branch-name ----------------------- (on SourceForge) buildtools MonetDB_1-22 MonetDB MonetDB_1-22 clients Clients_1-22 MonetDB5 MonetDB_5-4 sql SQL_2-22 geom Geom_0-2 MonetDB4 MonetDB_4-22 pathfinder XQuery_0-22 template MonetDB_1-22 (java has an independent release schema, and hence does not have/need a CVS branch (yet?)) (CWI internally) TestTools MonetDB_1-22 monetweb Stable_2008-02-03 - Increased version numbers and set configure details IMPORTANT NOTES: 1) As usually, once I have officially released the check-in lock, a) ALL bug fixes (and ONLY those) MUST be checked in to the above release branches (and ONLY there)! b) ALL new features (and ONLY those) MUST be checked in to the development trunk (HEAD) (and ONLY there)! (In case you need assistance please feel free to contact MonetDB-developers@lists.sourceforge.net .) Until different notice, any propagation of bug-fixes from the release branches to the respective development trunks will be controlled by Sjoerd, only, i.e., noone else is supposed to do any propagation, unless Sjoerd explicitly allowed such propagation. Obviously, Sjoerd may ask for assistance. Propagation from the development trunks to the release branches does not exist. 2) At CWI, all changes for the web site that are supposed to be put online with the upcoming release must be checked in to the "Stable_2008-02-03" branch of "monetweb". As of tomorrow morning (once nightly Stable testing has finished) this branch will be used to build the pre-view web site on koala. (Until the actual release, the life web site will remain being built from the "Stable_2007-09-18" branch of "monetweb".) ======== On Sat, Feb 02, 2008 at 11:33:30PM +0100, Stefan Manegold wrote:
