Hello all, I have built CentOS 5.6 compatible RPMs and I can share them with anyone interested.
To do that I've modified the configure and rpm spec requirements to match the packages currently available in CentOS and rpmforge.
I haven't done an intensive testing of the built binaries, but basic functionality works.

you'll have to compile and install it manually yourself.
My systems use openssl-1.0.0d successfully.
