Dear Osmin, as said, since we did not produce the CentOS RPMs you're using and do not even know exactly which version of MonetDB they contain, we cannot say much about them. Sorry. Moreover, they are one year old, and we cannot (easily) support such old versions of MonetDB... Well, maybe, if you send us the exact and complete command line you use to start mserver5 and the complete console output you get from it, as well as the exact and complete command line you use to start mclient and the complete console output you get from it, we *might* be able to say more ... Other than that, I would suggest to try the latest version of MonetDB, i.e., the release candidate for the upcoming Oct2010 release (unless we unexpectedly encounter any show stopper til then, it will be released as is on Monday Nov 15) as available from http://dev.monetdb.org/downloads/testing/ We cannot provide any CentOS RPM, but you can install from the source tarball http://dev.monetdb.org/downloads/testing/sources/Oct2010/MonetDB-Oct2010-Sup... using the monetdb-install.sh script that is contained in the tarball. Dear Osmin,
we are charmed by the fact that others pick-up MonetDB and provide binary installers (RPMs) for platforms that we do not have (access to) ourselves, like CentOS in this case. We were/are not aware of this.
Unfortunately, we do not have any information about, let alone control over, how these RPMs are built, and hence, cannot say much about them.
Moreover, in this case, the RPMs appear to be from Nov 2009, and hence seem to provide the MonetDB Nov2009 (or older?) release, which has long been out of support. The latest release is Jun2010-SP2 (http://monetdb.cwi.nl/Development/Releases/Jun2010/), which is soon to be replaced by the upcoming Oct2010 release (http://dev.monetdb.org/downloads/testing/).
Having said that, did you (1) install both the MonetDB5-server and the MonetDB-SQL RPMs (and all RPMs they require), and (2) load the SQL module when stating the mserver5, e.g., `mserver5 --dbinit='include sql;'` (this was still required with the old MonetDB Nov2009 release when stating mserver5 by hand).
Alternatively, you could use merovingian to start your MonetDB server as documented at http://monetdb.cwi.nl/SQL/Documentation/Start-and-Stop.html
If none of these helps, we'd need more detailed information to analyse what might be going wrong ...
