What do you suggest to handle failover?
I don't want to lose data between scheduled dumps. 
Yes my data comes from ETLs but I am purging the older source data. Was hoping that I could keep it here in the warehouse.

Any recipes you know of  that people apply for commercial use of monetdb?

In the Jul2012 release the option has been removed, since it is, as you
found out, non-functional.
