The problem turned out to be an unrelated version of iconv.dll in the system folder. See [1] for the detail. The easiest solution is to move all DLLs from the MonetDB lib folder to the bin folder. Go to C:\Program Files\MonetDB\MonetDB5\lib select all .dll files, cut them (control X), go up one level and down into bin, and paste the files (control V). This will be in the next release. Odd. These runtimes are for an ancient (and 32 bit) version of the Microsoft compiler. Are you certain mserver5.exe is the cause of the problem?

Hello All,
I am having trouble installing Monetdb on to my computer. Would anybody have any suggestions to fixing it?
I'm on a Window 7, 64 bit operating system and I get the following error message when I try to load the server program:
*"Error message: This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application might fix the problem."*
