Re: database failing to start

Like I mentioned in a previous message, in my laptop the istallattion worked fine with precise and continued to worke after the move to quantal. Only on our database server did we have this problem. It may have been cause by some disk corruption by nothing I can track or confirm. In any case, I'd like to suggest that error messages regarding misssing libraries should leave a clear log entry. I just tried installing Oct2012-SP1 according to the instructions on a clean but up-to-date ubuntu precise system. I had no problems running mserver5. (I have a bunch of clean virtual machines lying around for this purpose.)

It's funny that before I tried to move to the quantal repository, I unistalled and reinstalled from the precise repo without success. So I am pretty confident that somehow the new package has what was missing from my installation.
