Indeed. I read the posts again, and it indeed seems a different issue.
I build the Debian and Ubuntu packages in completely clean environments. No unnecessary packages are installed, and certainly no older MonetDB packages.
This is something I'd be interested in. Running dpkg-buildpackage on my system required older MonetDB shared libs to be installed. I'll try it with pbuilder, which will definitely answer the question.
The problem that the OP referred to was that the upload was half-hearted. Only new files were copied, but existing files weren't overwritten. So the Packages file still referred to the previous release, but that wasn't available anymore (and anyway, incompatible).
