have yo thought about moving the list to some provider which deals better with spam? like google-groups... I'd just be happy with a subscribers-only monetdb-users list as well.
Yup, that would work too. Does Monetdb-users list have an approval process for new members?
No.
I manage a yahoo groups based local python user group. New members have to answer 'why they are joining the list'.
Most of the time this is enough to keep out automatic bots and obvious spammers.
If SF has such a system, I volunteer to take care of new member approvals.
I would like to see first whether this is indeed a problem. Currently new subscribers have to respond to an email before they are subscribed. This will already stop most spammers, I would think.
Seeing so many spam emails on a tech mailing list is a pain , really.
I don't really notice it because I have a good anti-spam system in place. But the problem should be reduced now for this list. -- Sjoerd Mullender
