Thank you, I have read every documentation page I could find. You'll notice, that the gdk_nr_threads is absent from your referenced page; well technically I guess it is covered by " −−set option=value". However it is the that list of options that is elusive. (atleast for Windows and/or me)

the number of worker threads can be controlled with the following command line option for mserver5:

--set gdk_nr_threads=<N>

On Windows, you'd need to modify the batch script that start the server (mserver5) accordingly; possibly, you can also call that batch script with the above option.

On Unix's, you can use the monetdb tool:

monetdb set nthreads=<N>

I have tried various approaches, but nothing changes the ‘using 8 threads’ message displayed at server startup. I have a client (with a client) that is running MonetDB on a 2cpu windows box and getting various errors, I’m trying to duplicate them but cannot and am concerned it might be that my hardware (read laptop) is too “powerful” to create the error condition. I really do not want to light up a virtual machine just to reduce threads.
