I still get this error when I build with
--nightly=stable.
Is the bug the incorrect "include sql; sql.start()" or
something in the code? I'll file a bug report once
clarified.

In general it is not an error. The lines indicate commented out MAL code. They live in the signature files loaded upfront and before a MODULE statement is encountered they end up in the main body. They are garbage collected after the first real query.
The real one was the syntax error on include. Looking into the code, it appears that your file sql.mx is outdated, because the MAL code should not be visible anymore.

I'm not sure if this is a bug in the monetdb script or mserver5 itself.
