I'd just be happy with a subscribers-only monetdb-users list as well.
Yup, that would work too. Does Monetdb-users list have an approval process for new members? I manage a yahoo groups based local python user group. New members have to answer 'why they are joining the list'. Most of the time this is enough to keep out automatic bots and obvious spammers. If SF has such a system, I volunteer to take care of new member approvals. Seeing so many spam emails on a tech mailing list is a pain , really. -Pradeep -- Home: http://btbytes.com Heart: http://sampada.net

No.

I would like to see first whether this is indeed a problem. Currently new subscribers have to respond to an email before they are subscribed. This will already stop most spammers, I would think.

I don't really notice it because I have a good anti-spam system in place. But the problem should be reduced now for this list. -- Sjoerd Mullender
I can verify that there is a spam problem. While a confirm email can verify most users, I think a moderation queue wouldn't hurt at this point. I receive 2-4 emails a day from Monet-db which are spam. Sjoerd Mullender wrote:

I have made the list subscribers-only, and I have also set a default Reply-To header which points back to the list. If a non-subscriber tries to mail to the list, the message will be held for moderator approval. When I approve such messages, I usually also allow any future messages from the same non-subscriber to automatically go through. -- Sjoerd Mullender
