[MonetDB-users] Use cases for seperate servers vs single database
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA512 Hi, What is the developer perspective of running a single database with a single mapi interface but different users (and rights) versus multiple databases having each one user. Is there a good reason not to merge databases? I understand that each MonetDB instance thinks it can access all the memory on the system available, that would indicate it might be better to run a single server. Could someone elaborate on the above? Hi,
What is the developer perspective of running a single database with a single mapi interface but different users (and rights) versus multiple databases having each one user. it all depends on the application, hardware, expertise, politics.
Is there a good reason not to merge databases? yes/no depends understand that each MonetDB instance thinks it can access all the memory on the system available, that would indicate it might be better to run a single server.
Could someone elaborate on the above?

Lets put it into a limited hardware resource pool. There is one system available for databasing. And the target is to have an as high as possible throughput of queries given this resource constraint.
Is there a good reason not to merge databases?
yes/no depends
What would be reasons not to merge systems? I can only think of stability, if one database goes down, everything goes down.
