[MonetDB-users] upgrade notes: Feb2010 --> Jun2010
Hi, I'd like to upgrade to the June release. I'm running Feb 2010. Can I just build the June release and expect it will just work with my database? Or do I need to upgrade the data somehow? I poked around dev.monetdb.org/hg, looking for release notes, changelist, etc. but didn't find anything. Thanks, m

Yes, as long as you don't use Jun2010. Use Jun2010-SP1 or Jun2010-SP2. There were changes in the database, but they should get converted automatically.

No manual work required. We are not aware of problems with the upgrade to Jun2010-SP1 or Jun2010-SP2 from a Feb2010 release. However, we recommend to always make a backup before doing upgrades.

I have data backups. But I would also have to restore the executables and libraries, _and_ revert any changes the Jun2010 install makes (new files, new directories, etc.) The monetdb install 100% respects --prefix, right? So if I archive the --prefix directory with tar, I can roll back executables with no risk? Thanks, m

That is correct. (As long as you don't use a --dbfarm option to point outside of your --prefix tree.) You can double check the prefix/var/MonetDB5/dbfarm directory. It should contain your database.
