Fundamentially probably that MonetDB is using more filedescriptors than your system allows you to use. If that is a bug or not is unknown from your description. When does this happen exactly? Do you use merovingian? If so, can you look inside merovingian.log? The most likely explanation is that we leak filedescriptors, causing this open file limit to be hit.
